Your guests guide to Benalmadena, Spain

One of Spain’s hidden gems Benelmadena is a well loved resort with many travellers returning year after year to enjoy all this little Spanish town has to offer. Boasting some of the most beautiful beaches on the Costa Del Sol the 10 km seafront has something for everyone weather you are after a secluded spot in which to relax and enjoy the blue flag beaches or something a little busier, Benelmadena has it all

Benelmadena has a Mediterranean feel to its climate with the temperatures remaining high for most of the year. Temperatures in winter barely dip below 20°C and begin to rise in May and peak in the months of July and August hitting mid to high 30s.

The seafront is lined with an extensive choice of hotels, apartment complexes and villas each offering something unique and catering to the traveller and their needs. Whatever your choice of accommodation all are within easy walking distance of all the amenities this quaint little town has to offer. There are bars and restaurants to suit all types and tastes and the offer a relaxed and friendly atmosphere all year round.

Benelmadena offers many attractions not usually found in smaller towns throughout Spain, with such a wide and varied array of activities and things to do any visitor will be hard pressed to find a moment of boredom when visiting Benelmadena. The promenade runs alongside the picturesque coast ending at the Puerto Marina which offers excellent shopping and dining. The Sea Life centre is an excellent day out, it is based next to Benelmadena’s marina and is home to a wide range of marine life with many interactive exhibits making it a memorable experience. If the wildlife on offer isn’t enough the Sea life centre also holds an excellent miniature golf course which provides hours of fun.

La Paloma Park located in the center of Benelmadena Costa offers a stunning array of flora and fauna, plus a menagerie of animals including hens, rabbits, goats and exotic birds. The park is beautifully landscaped with themed gardens and rocky waterfalls which run into an exquisite lake.

Selwo Marina allows you to view up close all the animals cared for at the Marina with the highlight being the dolphin show preformed several times throughout the day. If you are after a once in a lifetime experience and have a little extra Euro to spend I would recommend the VIP tour of Selwo Marina. The VIP tour gives you exclusive access to behind the exhibits at the marina with the keepers sharing their extensive knowledge about the animals they care for. Along Benelmadena’s promenade is a bird sculpture set on a roundabout and it is from this location that a bus can be caught to all the coming attractions. The transportation in Benelmadena is excellent; it is regular and very reasonably priced. From this bus stop catch the 112 or 121 bus which will take you to Benelmadena Pueblo, Tivoli World, The Butterfly Park and Mijas Pueblo.

Benelmadena Pueblo is the oldest part of the town and comes complete with the quintessential whitewashed houses, winding cobble streets and views unmatched anywhere in the Cost Del Sol. This little part of Benelmadena is set a little further back from the coast on the foot of Mount Calamorro, it is a great location for shopping and grabbing a bite to eat whilst enjoying the view of Benelmadena’s coast.

Tivoli world is a theme park with over 40 rides on offer as well as an array of bars and restaurants it has so much to see and do that it is wise to set a day aside for this excursion. If the fast pace isn’t your thing Tivoli world also hosts a market Sunday mornings with all odds and ends on offer and so has something to suit everyone’s tastes. A little further along the road around a 5 min bus ride is the beautiful butterfly park with a whole host of species to see and interact with. This is an ideal family day out or a day for those wishing to take things a little slower.

The last stop on the bus tour is Mijas Pueblo a mountain village that offers a little piece of the old rustic Spain. The winding streets are filled with squares occupied with growing vines and water fountains. Mijas has excellent shopping; the streets are lined with little boutiques in which to visit. The sights of Mijas can be seen by foot, donkey or horse and carriage all of which are excellent ways to enjoy all Mijas has to offer. The top level of Mijas town is the main goal which hosts a one of the areas infamous bull fighting arenas as well as a superb view down the mountain to Benelmadena’s coastline.

Benelmadena has so much on offer repeat visits are a must as there is so much more to see and experience. Benelmadena is ideally located for other areas to be explored and are only a shot bus or ferry ride away. Malaga, Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Marbella are close to Benelmadena and so can be visited easily on a day excursion.
